We have had him for almost two weeks now, and I must say your puppy manual was an invaluable resource. From the first day we got him we have brushed him, brushed his teeth, layed with his paws, and uttered "No Bite!", and already I can see the changes in him. He even is sitting and waiting for his food! I haven't had a problem brushing his coat or his teeth (despite his protestations!), but I did have quite a time pulling the hair out of his ears yesterday. I imagine it's like women plucking their eyebrows, initial pain but doesn't last long. I wasn't su e how much hair to take out, or how far out of the ear canal to go, so I got the initial work done and will work with him next month. I used an ear cleaner first, and then used the powder and pulled the hair out by hand. Any hints or suggestions on making this a less painful and traumatic experience (both for him and me!)? Even though we've had Guinness for a couple of weeks now, I still return to your manual for reassurance that we're doing the right things, and at the right time. Thank you for an invaluable resource! When she does, she runs at me and chews me hard or grabs my clothes. I flip her over on her back, stare her down, say NO!, and hold a paw until she settles - which sometimes takes a while. Then I let her go. If she comes back scrapping I squirt her with water(and a little vinegar). This works, but it breaks my heart to discipline her, but I must establish myself as the alpha pack member = RIGHT. The rest of the time she is just a sweeties rambunctuous puppy I love her to bits, and I want to be proud of her. How am I doing??? TIP? on handling this phase of building the relationship??? Call to Wheatie owners who have been there. |
