Can relate totally. I have two bassets! Both are extremely friendly and think they are little tiny dogs. They always want to be in your lap and in the middle of things. People ask me how many children I have . I have 4, two two legged and two - four legged.

Max is gorgeous. We have been researching soft coated wheaten terriers. We have nine kids 22 months to 29 years. Our 22 month has leukemia. Our four youngest are adopted as we are foster parents and have been begging for a dog. We do not want a new puppy, but a little older.

Max is such a cutie! We found your site thru the Wheaten-L post you did, and when we got there recognized the Gleanngay name from our puppy's family tree. I was wondering how Gleanngay Adare Button Buster is related to Max? This is our puppy's granddad. Our puppy's name is Molly and she is by Dhowden Cedar Chip O'Cardiff and Bantry Bay Rhodesia.

I am Marya P's Wheaten and I am full of the devil. I did learn today that I should start dog school around one year old. I went to dog school when I was 3 months old and it did make a difference. I am 7 months old now and I can't wait to grow up.

Alan, thank you for your wonderful website... I've been back here many times. You helped us to learn and prepare for our puppy since before he was even born! Your puppy manual is an excellent resource, and the doggie photos are delightful. Our Baxter is now 4 months old and has just had his first serious haircut. We have followed your advice and worked with him daily to get him used to being handled, and the efforts are paying off. We were complimented on his good behaviour and co-operation during this first major session. We are fortunate to have an excellent breeder as well, so our puppy is off to a wonderful start. Thanks again for sharing... Max is a very lucky guy! All the best from Linda, Nick, Laurel, Lucas, and Baxter in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

HI, looking into this breed for show. I have a champion Giant Schnauzer who is retired and a PBGV that I had to retire due to unforseen bad genetics. That was heart breaking. Will be much more informed this time around. I am very impressed with the Wheaten as a breed, and would love any guidance and knowledge you can give me. I live in Brimfiled, MA. Thank you for your time. Sincerely Pam ODonnel

Hello, My partner and I are the proud parents of a nine-week old Wheaten named Guinness. We have had him for almost two weeks now, and I must say your puppy manual was an invaluable resource. From the first day we got him we have brushed him, brushed his teeth, layed with his paws, and uttered "No Bite!", and already I can see the changes in him. He even is sitting and waiting for his food! I haven't had a problem brushing his coat or his teeth (despite his protestations!), but I did have quite a time pulling the hair out of his ears yesterday. I imagine it's like women plucking their eyebrows, initial pain but doesn't last long. I wasn't su e how much hair to take out, or how far out of the ear canal to go, so I got the initial work done and will work with him next month. I used an ear cleaner first, and then used the powder and pulled the hair out by hand. Any hints or suggestions on making this a less painful and traumatic experience (both for him and me!)? Even though we've had Guinness for a couple of weeks now, I still return to your manual for reassurance that we're doing the right things, and at the right time. Thank you for an invaluable resource! Veniece Tedeschini

We just put our 13 years old boy to sleep three days ago and are so devastated. Our Freeway was the best, such personality and charm. The house is so empty and we expect to see him in all his familiar places. Maybe in the spring we will think of getting a new puppy.

We have been thinking about Wheatens for awhile. We love the pictures of Max! This dog would be for our eleven year old daughter. We have two old lady westies(west highland terriers) that are in pretty good health, but my daughter needs a puppy to grow up with. We have a fenced in yard and I'm a stay at home mom. Where can we find a pet wheaten in good health? Thanks for the great pictures and information! Regards, Pattie Brinkley

Other than crate soiling - she's had very few accidents at 14 weeks but our fingers are crossed :). Thanks again!!!!! Suzy & Daisy

Hi out there ! I wrote a few weeks ago. My Molly has been home 2 weeks now and I love her to bits.. She tests me though a lot. When she does, she runs at me and chews me hard or grabs my clothes. I flip her over on her back, stare her down, say NO!, and hold a paw until she settles - which sometimes takes a while. Then I let her go. If she comes back scrapping I squirt her with water(and a little vinegar). This works, but it breaks my heart to discipline her, but I must establish myself as the alpha pack member = RIGHT. The rest of the time she is just a sweeties rambunctuous puppy I love her to bits, and I want to be proud of her. How am I doing??? TIP? on handling this phase of building the relationship??? Call to Wheatie owners who have been there.

Alan: Your puppy manual is excellent. I don't think you missed a thing. I have always thought that it would be a good plan to have a dog use one same area of the yard to relieve himself and you mentioned that very thing. I'll have to learn how to train a dog to do just that. The idea of the plastic cover on the water dish is an excellent idea. I wonder who thought of it. Over the last few days I have searched the net and yours is the first site I actually got excited about. You spell everything right out which leaves no surprises. Thank you for taking the time to do such a great job. Well, once again thank you. Penny P.S. I caught a smile :)

Glad to see the new pictures of MacDuff's holiday in Florida. MacDuff is enjoying the warm weather in his new home (he doesn't miss the snow at all!) There are lots of squirrels here to bark at, but MacDuff hasn't spotted any of them yet (not the best eyes)...his tummy is fully recouperated after his operation to remove the marbles! :) MacDuff misses his buddy Max and all of the mind games over the bones. Raw hides are not nearly as enjoyable any more! Talk to you soon!

Very informative. I was surprised to read that you bathe your puppy only a few times a year. Our 4 month old puppy goes for a walk in the park in the morning with my husband, in the afternoon with our dog-walker, and then in the evening with me. Because we live in the Pacific Northwest, this means lots of rain and mud. We've been putting him in the sink and washing his feet, legs and belly on a daily basis. What else do you do with a muddy dog? Also, do you have any recommendations on shampoo and conditioner for Wheatens? Thanks. --Kathy

Hello Alan, What a wonderful page! Oliver and I enjoyed looking at Max and MacDuff's pictures so much. Max is really a beautiful champion. I am hoping to get another Wheaten in the summer - to show! We just love Oliver so much - now we want to show and breed. Thanks for the fun, Wendy

SCWT are very lovable dogs. We bought one for my dad after he lost his old english sheepdog, and he loves him! He has hip displasia is this common or a one off?

Very helpful and useful - thanks a lot. If I run across any ideas that work I would like to pass them along. One is sending or taking a sock or something of yours to the breeder prior to getting your puppy so it becomes accustomed to your smell and will bring the litter scents to your house.

Hi! I too have a "swheatie" named Beau. He is the love of my life. I really enjoyed your pages, and saw a lot of Beau in them. I am currently looking to get him a companion. I have checked with the breeders in Manitoba, are there any in Saskatchewan you would recommend?

We have meet several wheatens and want to get one for ourselves. My wife and I have two little boys -- 7 and 4.

Helpful sight. I'm concerned that this dogs temperment might be a bit too much for me to handle. I don't really want a tussle for alpha dog status and elsewhere on the web you get that impression. Not so here. Know of any Canadian sites for wheatens? Thanks for this!

Nice photos. The puppy manual is helpful. We're considering adding a Wheaten as a family pet - I'll come back & print it if we do. Do you know of any breeders in the N. or Central FL areas?

Hey Al, Came back to view the website with my new Netscape 4.5. Still looks good! Surfin' fast now and I upgraded to an OS8 so I'm really cruisin'. Talk to you soon. PS, where is the music to accompany the page? (GBG) I just realized that half the sites that I've visited before have music that I could never get. I'm movin' on up...... Marie

I felt as if I were reading about my Chloe when I read Max's profile! She is 7 1/2 months old and exhibiting the same characteristics and habits, including the "greeting disorder"! Very loveable, however. I wonder if it would be a good idea to get another dog so that she will have a companion, perhaps another Wheaten.

Found a lot of great information! Thanks. We are searching for a family pet to share our home w/ two young & active sons (8 & 5) who've finally earned a pet. My wife is allergic to most dogs and I refuse to cage or confine an animal so our list has grown short. We are searching for a good breeder, hopefully here in the northeast.
